We could release ‘Bowling for Columbine’ under Trump: Oscar-winning director

Oscar-winning director Michael Moore says his documentary ‘Bowling for Columbine’ could be released again during US president Donald Trump’s era.

Academy Award winner Michael Moore says his landmark documentary ‘Bowling for Columbine’ has the potential to be released once more during US president Donald Trump’s era.

Speaking at the US-based Tribeca film festival, the award-winning documentary filmmaker and screenwriter gave a negative assessment of the current political climate under Donald Trump, adding that ‘We could release this film (‘Bowling for Columbine’) again … and it sadly would probably be every bit as relevant.”

Released a year after the September 11 attacks in the US, Bowling for Columbine attracted both critical acclaim and an avalanche of controversy.

The documentary focused on the 1999 Columbine high school shooting and the then emerging threat of gun violence in America.

Moore was one of the rare voices who predicted Trump would take office during the election and warned about it.

“Trump is like someone you’ve given a Ferrari to and he can’t drive, yet he drives out of your life with it,” he said, adding, “With your child in the front seat.”

In January, Michael Moore protested anti-Muslim policies adopted by US Republican president Donald Trump and apologized to Muslim neighbors, saying, "The majority of Americans did not vote for this man."
